Well it may be a far cry from the millions of blogs active in the west, but Morocco's blogosphere has taken off as the liveliest free speech zone in largely conservative Muslim North Africa. The Moroccan "blogoma" as it is called, is home to atleast 30,000 sites. Inspired by blogers elsewhere in the Arab world, Moroccans saw these personal websites as a way to circumvent censorship while debating various issues.
well since we Indians have all the freedom we want, we wont understand it when blogs and press freedom are not allowed. We will feel it is ridiculous when so many blogers end up in jail for many of their comments. Like for example, a Saudi bloger is in jail now for some blog article of his, similar cases have happened in Africa, Tunisia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Algeria etc..
I guess we should be thankful that we have atleast this much freedom to express what we want.Well i cant say i am in the safe zone, because I am in Kuwait and here not much of press freedom is allowed (even though they say there is)!

Well there are not many forward, progressive countries. And to let you know they banned Blogging in India too... Sometime in 2005 or 2006. Then it came around. I guess, in the end, after all it is a human being who is ruling a country and most likely the country progresses forward based on his take on few things.

Humm ya i do rember some blog issue in india, but couldnt rember details..well atleast we do hav press freedom more than in the muslim nations..thats a gr8 thing..but the kind of rules they hav in the muslim nations are very frustrating at times.

i so damn agree with u...theres this nagging doubt in my head everytime i blog if iam going to get my head chopped off for this one...but iam in dubai, its reasonably great in its freedom of expression, unless i want to commit quick suicide by saying something abt religion or its rulers... :)

well i can understand that feeling. I did write an article about arabs and was wondering if it would create probs..luckily it didnt..Well humm looks like even i dont want to comment unnecessarily about somethings ...
yeah, we r fortunate that we have freedom to express almost anything.. when compaed to the blog/flickr/xyz site bans at many countries... i belive yahoo 360 (another blogging platform) was also briefly blocked @ UAE...

hum ya heard that many sites r blocked in many places..Kuwait has blocked many sites too..anyway not any good sites that i know of yet..so thats a blessing...
